Whether you’re a fan or not, clothes is a necessity. Having limited space to work with is a common challenge, but we’re here to share a few ways to make your space work for you.
- Pre-Prep
Before assessing the amount of potential closet space your room has, first take a hard look at the clothes in it. How many of those tops do you really wear, and how many look alien to you?
Being honest with yourself allows you to accept things change over time, and to acknowledge you may have outgrown certain items – whether its in size or taste. Cleaning has therapeutic benefits because this process creates time for self-awareness and pushes one into the benefits of creating mental space for oneself.
As you identify the items you no longer wear, throw them into a discard pile which can be donated or sold. Now that you’re finished with the hardest part, let’s move on to the following steps.
2. Consider the amount of space you have in relation to the amount of items you have remaining. How much extra storage do you require? How creative do you have to get to fit all your belongings? Once you’ve assessed your situation, consider incorporating the following:
- Hamper Baskets
Instead of having an unsightly pile of clothes in the corner of your room on the floor, large hampers keep dirty clothes organized in an easy to find spot when you’re ready to do laundry.
- Clothes Hangers
Also known as racks, hanging clothes are the tried and true way of keeping clothes both neat and ready to wear. To save money in the long run, be sure to invest in quality racks.
- Valet Clothing Rods
These rods are similar to racks, however they extend and provide additional storage space.
- Shoe cubby
Shoe cubbies come in a variety of designs: door-mounted, standalone, slanted, built-in, etc. Regardless of the design you choose shoe cubbies will help you keep your shoes organized and out of a pile on your closet floor.
- Wall-mounted rack
A wall-mounted jewelry rack will keep your necklaces organized and untangled.
